A
Buddha antique is the object
of desire of many people for
various reasons.
One
of
the
most
interesting
places
to
buy Buddha
antiques
of
the
east
is
the Tanglin Shopping
Centre in Singapore.
This
is not
only Singapore's
oldest mall, the
statues,
images and
other
antiques
are
usually
even
much
older.
Various Buddha antique
objects have been looted
in several countries of
Asia. The French where one
of the biggest "exporter" of
Buddha antiques in Cambodia
during their colonial
presence there. Actually to
be honest at that time
taking Buddha antiques to
Europe didn't have the same
stigma as today, there where
simply different times with
different values and
opinions it is not possible
to evaluate everything what
happen in the past with the
parameters we have and know
today.
Different time means
different thinking and
values, it's just like
that. |

Exquisite
antiques and art
pieces such as Chinese Buddha
statues from China and south east Asia are on display plus all kind of decorative items. There are beautiful old Ming vases plate and tableware plus other porcelain
items. |

Also
Buddha
statues
from
Myanmar
and
Cambodia
find
their
way
to
the
Tanglin

Centre
from

The
Tanglin
Shopping
Center
in
Singapore
is a
real
haven
for
a
connoisseur
of
art
around
the
Buddha
statues
theme. |
|
Not even at London in the antique shops around the big auction houses such exquisite items can be found.
When buying antique Buddha items at Singapore, Hong Kong or maybe Europe there are two things almost for sure, prices are high and there is a good chance that you buy good quality, but there is no good bigger Jade Buddha. Elsewhere in Asia prices might be lower but usually also the quality is low. At the Tanglin Shopping Mall finest and real exquisite sculptures are

available, it wont matter now if it is a marble Buddha, wood, jade Buddha, casting or other materials.
- One of the
most
venerated
items in
terms of
depicting
Buddhism is
a Buddha
head.
Among
other
vandals
it
was
the
Islamic
barbarians
who
destroyed
most
of
the
best
and
most
beautiful
Buddhas
by
smashing
off
the
Buddha
head
whenever
they
saw
one.
They
said
in
Islam
God
shouldn't
be
depicted
in a
human
form,
but
they
don't
understand
and
have
never
understood
that
Buddhism
is
not
Islam,
but
who
can
understand
the
world
with
Taliban
parameter
who
even
smashed
the
big
Buddhas
in
Afghanistan
some
years
ago?
no
cave
dweller
can.
Another
group
who
did
similar
things
a
couple
of
hundred
years
ago
were
the
Burmese,
when
they
overrun
Ayutthaya,
the
then
capital
of
Siam,
they
destroyed
and
burnt
most
of
the
temples.
Some
looters
years
later
tried
to
steal
a
Buddha
head
out
from
the
ruins
but
didn't
come
far
since
the
Buddha
bead
was
to
heavy
and
at
that
days
no
Komatsu
shovel
was
available.
So
the
dropped
the
head
and
over
the
centuries
mother
nature
swallowed
the
sacred
stone.

the

somehow
similar
to
the
ruins
of
Angkor

Another
real
bad
example
of
vandalism
was
the
looting
the
French
did
in
Cambodia
during
colonial
times
as
you
can
see
in
the
pics
below,
but
at
least
they
didn't
destroy
the
sculptures. |

Khmer
Buddha's
in Cambodia
are
sad
example
what
vandals
are
doing
with
antique
Buddha
sculptures
and
other
antique
objects.
They
break
the
antique
sculptures
off
the
temples
and
smuggle
them
out
of
the
country.
In
particular
during
the
French
colonial
occupation
of
Cambodia
hundreds
of
beautiful
and
very
valuable
Buddha
figures
and
other
antique
artifacts
were
stolen
by
French
people.
It
is
necessary
to
indicate
that
also
the
lunatic Pol
Pot
was
educated
in
France
and
obviously
got
his
mad
ideas
there.
Even
today
people
do
this
on a
smaller
scale
since
most
of
the
temples
and
monuments
are
not
guarded.
Even
at
Angkor
Wat
today
there
are
plenty
of
ancient
sculptures
and
artifacts
still
unexcavated
and
looters
are
digging.
Since
Western

are still very active on the buying end looting of the
gangs
with
the
stone
is
going
on
and
priceless
carvings
are
cut
and
smuggled
out
of
the
country.
The
Khmer
ancient
treasures usually in form of Buddha statues and relief are still in great demand and there are art dealers and collectors who are willing to pay a high price for Hindu and Buddhist art. |
