Buddhist
monastery,
Buddhist
monasteries
|
|
|

are not only
in Asia and
predominate
Buddhist
countries. In
the last two
decades when
Buddhism went
into "western"
mainstream
monasteries and
retreats have
been created,
often not only
with meditation
facilities but
also with some
yoga. All this
somehow fit
together. |

A Buddhist
retreat is a new
monastery
version,
time is
changing,
meditation is
"in" not
only Asia.
Several
monasteries in
Yangon, Bagan,
Mandalay, US, UK
and elsewhere
have open a new
business
operation within
their
monasteries.
Normally a
Myanmar
monastery only
consist of a
house for the
monks.
According to the
wealth of the
monastery
(usually related
to donations)
stupas, temples,
libraries etc.
are added to.
Monasteries with
a better
financial
background also
always have
their own well
and pond.
Already before
the beginning of
our calendar
monasteries had
been set up in
Ajanta, Ellora, Taxila,
at other
Indian places
and elsewhere in
the world.

monks - that was
the structure of
the early
Buddhist
monasteries.
Until the early
Centuries all
monastery
buildings were
constructed from
wood (with
exception of the
temples and
stupas). By the
end of the 13.

constructions
were done with

in the world.
Some

other
are made
from
bricks
or both
togester.
Every time Bagan brick
constructions
are mentioned
there is a
indication to
their Indian
origin. Indeed,
even the old
Burman
definition is
Kulaklon, which
means Indian
monastery, that
corresponds to
their origin and
also to their
structure. Buddhism and
monastic order
had come from
India and with
them also the
installation of
monasteries. |

Most
Buddhist

have a

There
are some
storage

keep the
old
manuscripts in good condition.
Since Myanmar or
Burma probably
has the highest
density in
monasteries,
pagodas and
temples in the
world its worth
to have a look
around for them,
maybe on a
vacation trip.
Many of them
have been
constructed as a
solid teak

The Golden
Monastery
(Myanmar
language) was
built under the

King Thibaw
(1878-1885) in
the year 1880.
