- A
Buddhist Pagoda is one
of the most impressive
human created
construction.
Its a rather simple
shape with a Pagoda
umbrella called "Hti".
It is has a
divine and exotic aura
everyone can feel and
probably the strongest
impression of any is
raised at the platform
of the Shwedagon Pagoda
in Yangon Myanmar.
Watching the devotees
donating flowers to one
of the various Buddhist
shrines (around the main stupa are dozens of
smaller shrines and
pagodas). People come
from every part of the
country on pilgrimage
tours and not only
Myanmar people,
virtually the whole
Buddhist world is around
there are Japanese
People, Chinese,
Koreans, Indians, Nepali
and many more.
Interestingly the
probably most impressive
Pagodas outside
Burma are in Penang
Georgetown, located
opposite at the same
place, only a busy
street is between them.
One of the Pagodas is of
distinct Burmese Pagoda
architecture, the other
is Thai style.
By any proportion
Myanmar is undisputed
"Pagoda Country" in the
world. A Buddhist
shrine, Pagoda or Temple
is virtually everywhere
where some people are,
even at the beach, in
the river, perched on
top of hills, mountains
and even deep in caves
are "Cave Pagodas", the
most prominent are in
the Pindaya Cave, Shan
State near Inle Lake and
the other are the
Powinthaung Cave Pagodas
near the Chindwin River
close to Monywa about
120km west of Mandalay.
The difference
between a Buddhist
Pagoda and a Buddha
Temple is, the
Pagoda is a solid
structure, the Temple is
an open structure just
walk in like into a
Church, there is no walk
in at the Pagoda. |
