- Buddhist sculptures have
certain meanings and
purposes;
they can be a object of
devotion or an object of
decoration. Some of the most
popular is a laughing Buddha
either in jade, wood, stone
or whatever. Buddha
sculptures have sometimes a
great influence over people
especially when someone tell
others they can perform
miracles, this is not a
yoke. E.g. every day many
people in Buddhist countries
visit a pagoda or temple and
pray to the Buddha
Sculpture, asking for all
kind of things, one very
often asked in Thailand e.g.
is to find the right numbers
for the lottery.
At the Shwedagon Pagoda
Platform in Yangon Myanmar
are certain particular
Buddhist sculptures where
lots of people are around
praying since they believe
those can perform miracles.
There are also other Buddha
images and Buddha Statuettes
are people interpret certain
wonder working into it, as
usual this is only in the
head of the devotees but
it’s difficult to convince
people on such things. |

Angkor Wat the ancient capital of the Khmer empire is one of the prime cultural and archaeological sites of the world and the cultural heart of Cambodia.
After rediscovering the Khmer temples, palaces and monuments by the French colonialists plenty of Buddha sculptures, Buddha statues, Buddha figures and Buddhist images disappeared and reappeared in Paris and London. Today they can be found in the antique shops in the vicinity of Sotheby's and Christies in London. Luckily there are still plenty of Buddha sculptures, Buddha statues, Buddha figures to be seen in Cambodia. Some places are the museums of Phnom Penh, the temples of Angkor, Phnom Chisor, Tonle Bati and other beautiful temple sites plus some private collections in Phnom Penh and elsewhere in the country. Since over the years many Buddha statues from China, Myanmar or Burma, Thailand and even India where discovered in Cambodia some Cambodian antique shops are a real treasure trove.

stone Buddhas, bronze Buddhas and more. There are also beautiful antique woodcarvings. Woodcarvings are rather seldom since because of frequent fires over the centuries they didn't survive.
